Royal Commonwealth Society photograph collection, 1850-1970 (inclusive), [microform].

The collection consists of 45,000 historical photographs documenting British imperial expansion and consolidation. The photographs, taken by commercial operators, explorers, administrators, and soldiers, record early explorations and contacts with aboriginal inhabitants; settlements of pioneers and farmers; the building of railways, roads, and bridges; and the growth of cities.
